Fatal motorcycle accident in New York

Motorists on Staten Island roads are well aware of the dangers that come with driving on the crowded city streets of New York. Motorcycles can be especially dangerous. The small size of the motorcycle can make it more difficult for other drivers to spot them on the road, causing fatal motorcycle accidents. While car and truck drivers have barriers surrounding them to protect them, motorcyclists are uncovered and, as a result, can face more serious injury in an accident than other drivers. In fact, motorcyclists are about 26 times more likely to die in an accident than those in passenger vehicles.

A recent New York accident left one motorcyclist dead and others injured. The accident occurred when a motorcyclist traveling with a group of other motorcyclists rear-ended a sedan on Sprain Brook Parkway in Elmsford. The driver of the sedan collided with a guardrail and spun out of control, then hitting another motorcycle. Sadly, that motorcycle burst into flames, killing the 38-year-old man operating it. The driver of the sedan and the motorcyclist who crashed into the sedan were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. Reports indicate that the motorcyclist suffered critical injuries, while the sedan driver suffered from minor injuries.

While all drivers have to deal with certain difficulties while on the road, motorcyclists face their own unique set of challenges. About 70% of motorcycle-versus-vehicle collisions occur near intersections. This likely has to do with the fact that motorcycles are more likely to be blocked by other vehicles, especially in bad weather.

Road hazards including potholes, uneven roads and other debris can also become a serious problem for motorcyclists. All drivers must make sure to pay special attention to motorcycles on the road to prevent fatal accidents from occurring.
