Even if a pedestrian obeys all of the traffic laws in Staten Island and throughout New York City, the roads are rife with dangers. It could be due to a driver operating his or her vehicle recklessly, not paying attention to what is in front of him or her or simply failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. A pedestrian who is hit by a motor vehicle under any circumstances is likely to be injured. In a worst case scenario, fatal pedestrian accidents will result. Those who have had their lives affected by a pedestrian accident need to know what to do after it happens.
A teenage girl crossing the street was hit by a pickup truck as it was turning. The girl, age 15, suffered a severe head trauma in the crash. When law enforcement and rescue crews arrived, the girl was not responding and was unconscious. She was taken to the hospital and declared dead. The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
When there are intersection accidents and a person is hit by a car, the injured person and the family needs to understand the ramifications of the incident. If there were injuries, the person will likely face significant medical costs and the possibility of long-term care. He or she might never return to normalcy or be able to work. With a fatality, the family left behind will have to deal with the tragic loss of a loved one. In fatal pedestrian accidents, compensation may be available for the family as a result of their loss. While a settlement on the amount of compensation is preferable, it is not always possible and it may be necessary to move forward with litigation. Insurers are often focused on saving as much money as possible and will try to offer a settlement early in the process. Many times, this settlement is for the minimal amount and is made while the family is still reeling from the accident. Accepting the settlement at this point frequently can be a mistake.
In this accident, a teenage girl was fatally struck by a pickup truck as she crossed the street. Given the circumstances of this accident, her family needs to understand their options for a possible legal filing. As a result, they should discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in fatal pedestrian accidents as soon as possible.
