Woman charged with drunk driving after fatal accident

During this time of year, many people make the terrible decision to drink and drive. Accidents on the road are especially devastating during the holiday season. Accident victims and their families can take comfort in knowing that there are ways to hold negligent drivers responsible for their actions. One Annadale woman may now pay the price for her decision.

The 26-year-old woman was involved in a car accident in Huguenot earlier this month. Police say that the three-vehicle crash occurred when the woman ran a red light and t-boned a vehicle that had the green light. The impact caused the t-boned vehicle to crash into a third vehicle that was waiting at a light. The woman's vehicle also spun out of control and crashed into a fence before coming to a stop in front of a nearby intermediate school.

The 41-year-old driver of the t-boned vehicle was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital. She was on her way home from dinner and was only blocks from home in Staten Island when the accident occurred.

The woman and her passenger, as well as the driver of the third vehicle, were taken to a nearby hospital and are in stable condition. The woman has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

Car accidents like these are often caused by negligent and reckless drivers. Disobeying traffic signs, failing to signal, speeding, drunk driving or disregarding weather or traffic conditions can all be considered negligent behavior behind the wheel. Drivers who are found to be negligent can face criminal charges as well as be required to pay damages.

Victims of a car accident or loved ones who lost a loved one in a fatal crash shoul dunderstand they have rights and legal remedies available. Seeking guidance about the options availabel could help the victim and their loved ones collect compensation for their losses and damages.
