Limo accident leaves four New York women dead

Getting married is one of the most exciting times in a young woman's life. While it is not expected that everything will go as planned leading up the joyous day, most do not expect to be involved in a serious accident. Tragically for one New York woman, her fun was cut short by a devastating accident that killed four of her friends.

On the day of the accident, the bride-to-be and seven of her friends went wine tasting. The women left the vineyard in a limousine they had rented and headed east. That's when a pickup truck collided with the side of the limo, nearly ripping the vehicle in half.

Three of the women were killed almost immediately after the impact. One woman was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital. The bride-to-be and two other women were critically injured. The driver of the limo was also injured and was not charged in the accident.

The man behind the wheel of the pickup was charged with driving while intoxicated. It is unclear what his blood alcohol level was at the time of the crash. The driver suffered injuries and has been charged with a misdemeanor at this time; however, he could face harsher penalties pending the completion of investigation.

Drunk driving is not uncommon in the state of New York. In fact, two Long Island counties, not far from Staten Island, made up the largest percentage of alcohol-related fatalities in the state. With so many tragedies that occur at the hands of drunk drivers, victims and their families should know that there are ways to receive compensation to help them financially recover from their losses.

Civil actions such as a personal injury claims and wrongful death suits could help victims and loved ones of the deceased recover compensation. A monetary award could help cover financial burdens and hardships such as damages, medical expenses, funeral costs, lost wages and other related damages.
