New technology could help prevent car accidents

Over the past few years, new devices have been developed to make the roads safer for elderly drivers. However, many of these devices are beneficial to all drivers on the New York roadways.

One new device on the market is called SplitSecnd. It can easily be plugged into the cigarette lighter of any vehicle and will be programmed with information about the driver and vehicle. This device could be a lifesaver in situations when a driver is involved in an accident in an isolated area and cannot reach his or her cell phone.

The device picks up on the movement in the vehicle. If a driver fails to respond to a voice command in a certain amount of time, the device will send help to the vehicles exact location. Additionally, GreatCall has developed a new technology to help those who struggle with using cell phones and newer technology. GreatCall allows people to send for help with just the push for a button.

Helping accident victims is one thing, but what about the prevention of accidents? Various forms of distracted driving cause thousands of car crashes every year. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control reports that 9 people are killed and 1,153 people are injured in U.S. car accidents involving a distracted driver every day.

While distractions can be visual, manual or cognitive, we all know that cell phones is one of the primary forms of distraction these days. Another new technology will use a remote control to disable the sounds a phone makes when a call or text comes in. By doing this, drivers may be much less likely to look at their phones when driving.

While these new developments will hopefully reduce the number of accidents on the roadways, automobile collisions still occur. Anytime a driver is negligent behind the wheel, he or she is putting countless lives at risk. Car accident victims may struggle with physical, emotional and financial recovery. Filing a lawsuit against responsible parties may help them get their lives back on track.
