Lawsuit filed after woman killed in pedestrian accident

When a car accident occurs in New York, victims may be physically and emotionally wounded. In the worst case scenarios, an accident can leave one or multiple people dead. The families who have lost loved ones in road accidents may have a difficult time picking up the pieces and moving forward with their lives. Filing a lawsuit against those responsible for the death may help bring a family closure.

The estate of one New York woman has recently filed suit against Staten Island and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority after her death in a pedestrian accident in Arrochar.

The 77-year-old woman was hit by an SUV at an intersection last summer. She was severely injured and was pronounced dead the next day. The driver of the SUV and the owner of the vehicle were also named in the lawsuit.

The suit alleges that there was a hazardous street condition created as the result of construction work to the entrance ramp of a nearby bridge. The woman was crossing the street near the ramp when she was hit by the SUV turning left onto the ramp. One of the bridge entrances was closed in the evening due to construction, resulting in excess traffic at the intersection. As a result of this incident, Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis asked the Transportation Departments to keep the entrance ramp open at all times.

This isn't the first time that this intersection proved to be dangerous. Reports say that other accidents have previously occurred at the same intersection.

When intersection accidents occur, it is important to hold those responsible liable for the pain they have caused and hopefully prevent future tragedies.
