Getting injured in a car accident can be a very tumultuous occurrence in a person's life. Dealing with so many expenses on top of having to recover from the injury itself can be overwhelming for an accident victim and their family. Fortunately, victims can recover some of these expenses and receive compensation for their pain and suffering by filing a lawsuit against those responsible for their injuries.
A successful lawsuit can also give a victim the satisfaction that justice has been done when someone is held responsible for the tragedy that occurred. One young woman recently received an injury settlement of $235,000 after an accident left her confined to her home for months.
The 28-year-old woman was driving in Staten Island when her vehicle was struck by another vehicle at an intersection. The woman told police that she had the right of way and was proceeding accordingly. The other driver told police that she stopped at the stop sign but did not see the woman's vehicle. The woman's pre-existing lower back issues were aggravated as a result of the accident. She had to undergo surgery on her back the day after the accident and was forced to stay home for five months afterwards. The woman sued the negligent driver and the owner of the vehicle that hit her. Three years after the accident, the lawsuit was settled. There is no way to go back in time and undo what happened, but damages can help accident victims move forward from a difficult time in their lives.
