Accidents on New York City roadways have caused countless deaths and serious injuries to motorists. Trucks can be particularly dangerous as they are some of the most dangerous vehicles on the road. An associate research scientist at the University of Michigan’s Transportation Research Institute finds that nearly 4.000 people are killed in the 3,800 truck accidents that occur every year. These accidents cause a reported 100,000 injuries each year. With truck accidents responsible for 13 percent of total road fatalities, it’s safe to say that improvements need to be made. Fortunately, new technology is out there with the potential to lower the number of fatal car accidents. Safety systems such as active brake assist and forward collision warning can help save lives. The idea of a safety system is to help the driver maintain control of his truck, thereby lowering the chances of an accident occurring.

In the future, the technology may allow for periods of time with no driver control whatsoever. Vehicle-to-vehicle communications and platooning will also see some new innovations. As these new technologies start making their way into the trucking world, regulations and testing standards will have to change to accommodate these new technologies.New technology has already made an impact on truck safety. According to some experts, the number of truck accident fatalities has dropped significantly over the last ten years. However, even with the new technologies available, there will still be some tragedies that occur on the road. For those affected by these accidents and their families, it is comforting to know that there are ways to recover damages to help pay for the expenses resulting from the crash.
