An accident on the Staten Island roadways can lead to devastating injuries and deaths. Sadly, a recent car accident left one man dead and three others injured.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Hylan Boulevard and Old Town Road in Dongan Hills. One vehicle was headed southbound on Hylan when a second vehicle heading northbound tried to make a left turn onto westbound Old Town Road. The two vehicles collided and caused the first vehicle to hit a utility pole.
The three people in the first vehicle and the driver of the second vehicle were all injured. One person in the first vehicle suffered head trauma and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The backseat passenger suffered neck and back pain. The driver of the vehicle suffered head and body trauma, but has been listed as stable. However, he has been charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and criminal possession of a controlled substance. The 88-year-old driver of the other vehicle suffered back and neck pain and is stable.
With accidents involving serious injuries, it is likely that at least one victim will be able to file a lawsuit against those responsible. Courts will determine who is at fault for the accident based on the evidence presented. The party found responsible will likely be held liable for the damages caused by the accident and will have to pay for medical expenses, lost wages and other costs. While nothing can erase the pain of an accident, it can help to have some financial stability during such a difficult time.
