Staten Island accident leaves one dead and many injured

In New York, a number of car accidents are caused by drivers that behave negligently behind the wheel. This negligence can result in the injuries and deaths of motorists and pedestrians and leave families devastated. A recent chain-reaction crash in Staten Island has claimed the life of a 75-year-old man and injured many others.

The car accident occurred when a 78-year-old driver got into a minor accident and then proceeded to speed down Travis Avenue. The woman crashed into multiple vehicles stopped at a red light at an intersection. The woman’s car then flew through the air and landed in the middle of the intersection, causing several other vehicles to crash into her. The woman is currently in critical condition.

As a result of this accident, thirteen people suffered injuries and ten of them were taken to the hospital, including the deceased man’s wife. The man was taking his wife out for a drive to give her a break after her recent hospitalization for cancer treatment.

When determining fault in an accident, courts have to decide who was negligent. Disobeying traffic signs, speeding, disregarding weather conditions or driving under the influence may all be considered when determining negligence. If a driver is found to be negligent, the victim and their family may recover damages to help pay for medical expenses, lost wages and other costs.

In this case, it is unclear what caused the 78-year-old woman to start the chain-reaction crash. But, she may face legal responsibility for the injuries and damages that resulted.
