Staten Island pedestrian hit and run injures grandmother

Pedestrians should know the dangers they face from motorists. Drivers are frequently ignorant of pedestrians for a variety of reasons. What makes a pedestrian accident worse is when the driver flees the scene, making it a hit and run. As a result, these pedestrian should know how to pursue compensation in a legal filing.

A 62-year-old female pedestrian was hit by a car at around 8 a.m. The vehicle did not stop. Instead, it dragged her, and then fled the scene. The victim, a grandmother, was hospitalized with serious injuries. The accident was captured on video, giving law enforcement a lead on how to find the driver, which they eventually did.

The 22-year-old woman was arrested for the hit and run. She also faces several other charges, including driving while unlicensed, failing to yield for a pedestrian, failure to adhere to a stop sign and leaving the scene of an accident.

Because pedestrians have no protection when hit by a car, there can be head trauma, spinal cord injuries, broken bones and worse. People can be killed. The person who was hit can will face massive medical expenses, surgery, rehabilitation and possibly, long-term problems with money. If there is a fatality, the family left behind will need to learn to move on. Unfortunately, even with these horrors, insurance companies often make lowball offers to avoid costly litigation, and many victims will make the mistake of accepting the offer because they are facing daunting financial challenges.

In this incident, the vehicle dragged the victim as it fled the scene, and there is iron-clad video evidence. Despite the initial prognosis, saying that she should be fine, there could still be extensive problems. As such, she and her family should protect themselves by discussing a case with an experienced legal professional.
