New York City is exceedingly busy and a hub for business. With that comes many deliveries made throughout the five boroughs and across the state. Some of these deliveries are made by private companies. Others are made by government employees. It is a reasonable expectation that those who make these deliveries for a living will adhere to the law and make certain that they are operating their vehicles in a safe manner. Unfortunately, pedestrians are especially vulnerable to being hit by a car if drivers are not paying attention or make unsafe maneuvers. These pedestrians are at risk for injury and death after a crash. When there have been pedestrian knockdowns or other pedestrian accidents, a lawyer can help with seeking compensation.

Three pedestrians were hit by a United States Postal truck that backed into them. The accident happened in Midtown at around 10 a.m. According to the investigation, the 49-year-old driver of the truck backed up and hit three people who were standing by the crosswalk waiting to cross the street. The truck is equipped with a camera to see behind it, but the driver did not see anyone when he reversed. Surveillance video captured the scene as it unfolded. Witnesses saw the USPS truck hit the people.

The three people were a 48-year-old female, a 68-year-old female, and a 66-year-old male. The 48-year-old had an injury to her right leg. The 68-year-old had neck, rib, arm and leg injuries. The 66-year-old male had injuries to both legs. The latter two are married. The victims were hospitalized and are expected to survive. The driver was cited for failing to yield.

A pedestrian accident can be much worse than a crash between two vehicles due to the absence of protection that pedestrians have. When hit by a car, there can be serious injuries such as broken bones, cuts, lost limbs, head injuries and neck injuries. Fatalities are a possibility. People who have been hit by a car should know all the potential problems they will face in the future. Having advice from an attorney who understands how to investigate after a pedestrian is hit by a car is crucial to receiving sufficient compensation.
