Staten Island woman hit by a car while crossing street dies

On behalf of Michael J. Gaffney, Attorney at Law | Jul 13, 2018 | Pedestrian Accidents

Anyone who ventures out of their home in Staten Island and throughout New York City will be aware of the number of vehicles that speed, behave recklessly, are negligent and place others in danger. In some cases, this will lead to a vehicle-pedestrian accident. Because pedestrians do not have the protection of a vehicle, there is a chance they will be injured and even killed in a crash. In many, the driver of the vehicle will choose to flee rather than stay at the scene, turning these crashes into hit-and-run accidents. People who have been injured or lost a loved one in a pedestrian crash should keep in mind that they have the right to seek compensation in a lawsuit.

A woman was killed when she was hit by a car. The accident occurred at shortly before 10 p.m. According to the investigation, the woman, 42, was at a pedestrian cutout located in the center median of the road when she was hit. The vehicle is believed to have been a dark SUV and it was speeding. The vehicle went out of control and hit the woman. After she was hit, she landed under a parked vehicle. She was found with severe injuries and was unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital and declared dead. The search for the vehicle is ongoing.

Since a pedestrian can be severely injured or killed when hit by a car, it is imperative that the driver of the vehicle stop and either render immediate aid or call for emergency personnel after the accident has happened. Unfortunately, many drivers do not do that. With any pedestrian crash in which the person survives, there is always a chance for a long hospital stay, permanent damage, the need for care every day for the rest of their lives and the financial and personal commitment that accompanies these issues. With fatal pedestrian accidents, the family left behind will need to come to grips with the unexpected loss in a personal and financial way. A lawsuit is often the only way to get to the bottom of what happened and to be adequately compensated.

In this accident, a woman was crossing the street and waiting at the median when she was hit by a vehicle and killed. As the investigation continues to find the fleeing driver, the woman’s family must make certain their interests are adhered to by discussing a lawsuit with a law firm that is experienced in helping with cases related to a fatal accident involving a loved one.
